Join dragkhar for another theme shoot

Posted Apr 21, 2009 by Dor in JAlbum news

User dragkhar organised a theme shoot with the topic "Architecture" some time ago where we saw architecture albums from all over the world. Now, he's putting together another fun shoot around a common subject. Here are his thoughts on the new theme:

"So as I sat on the subway to work I just came up with this briliant idea, why not illustrate people going from and to work, or just people travelling somewhere. So my idea is "Passengers"

Sounds like a great idea to me. It will be interesting to see what everyone will contribute with. He has an invitation to join the event in his Guest book:

"Anyone up for yet another joint theme happening?

I would like you all to think "Passengers" and take photoes of what you see and make an album of your result at the latest 31/5.
It's ok to use old pics, if you have any, and frree PS is ok as well.

Let your creativity flow and keep me posted.

/Magnus"

Join dragkhar for this event by replying to his message in his Guest book. Looking forward to seeing your work!

"Make an album like this"

Posted Apr 16, 2009 by David Ekholm in JAlbum news

Users have asked me how to make several albums using the same settings as an album they've previously made (and tweaked the settings for). There are several ways of doing this, but to simplify this task I've put together a Jalbum Tool that imports the settings of an existing album project onto the currently loaded project. This tool is available via our user forum.

 Enjoy! :-)

Blog badge in action

Posted Apr 15, 2009 by carl in JAlbum news

In a previous blog post we told you about the project Jalbum Blog badge (beta) we are working on. It allows bloggers to place a widget in the sidebar of their blog that automatically updates with thumbnails to each album published with Jalbum. We're still keeping it in beta to test things out and to add new features, like Blogger support and as a Wordpress Plug-in. It's great to see that people are already starting to use it. Here's user helensgallery who just started a blog and inserted the Jalbum Blog badge (beta). She's using the Media RSS file from her Jalbum albums and a Blogger slide-show tool to display her Jalbums in a visual way, check it out.

Helenes Media RSS picture

She is using the same Blog badge as this blog has placed in the column to the right ("Featured albums"). It invites her visitors for more exploring. Visit Helen's blog to see how it looks like.

Printing support in Jalbum

Posted Apr 14, 2009 by David Ekholm in JAlbum news

If you have an inkjet printer you might have asked yourself why there is no print support within Jalbum. Well now there is!

I've now developed a printing plugin for Jalbum using the new plugin system of Jalbum 8. This is what it is capable of:

  • It prints full size images (using the max dimensions of the page in your printer)
  • It can add file names and captions below the images
  • On Mac, it lets you preview, print PDFs and select number of images per page too (1,2,4,6,9,16). Future versions will probably allow this on Windows too.

To install, simply copy JPrint.jar to Jalbum's "ext" folder. Then restart Jalbum.
To use, simply select the images to print inside Jalbum, then right click any of these images and select "Print..." from the popup menu.

This plugin is released as open source under the liberal Apache 2.0 license. Get the source code here.
I hope you wish to improve it. What do you think?

The default distribution of the texteditor jEdit has some problems on MacOS Leopard, it just won't start.

I have created a patched version that works, you can download it from me if you drop me a message.

Jalbum on Twitter and Facebook

Posted Apr 7, 2009 by Björn Fant in JAlbum news

Do you use Facebook or Twitter? So do we! We have a group on Facebook called Jalbum where we publish blog posts from this blog and meet you guys. A bunch of the Jalbum team members are a part of this group if you want to get to know them up close.

Our friendly frog mascot Dor started a Twitter account the other day – nickname JalbumFrog. He tweets (or is it croaks?) about Jalbum, the community and the everyday life as a mascot. He is quite social and gladly talks to people with questions or feedback around Jalbum and photography.

Did you know that it’s ridiculously easy to share Jalbums on Facebook and many other social sites? Visit your Albums page and find the “share” option next to the album. Pick a site and enjoy the ride.

Also, don't forget to activate the "Share" widget on your albums! Allow your visitors to spread the news of your creations.

Interesting interests

Posted Apr 3, 2009 by carl in JAlbum news

We're intrigued by the diversity of albums being published with Jalbum. The Jalbum format being a collection of photos in a "photo album" rather than individual photos seem to inspire a lot of people to tell a story with their pictures. It makes exploring Jalbum albums interesting and a lot of fun! Here are a few examples of albums displaying the work of some Jalbum users who are dedicated to a specific topic. Check out these interesting interests:

Pucks new

User ujobrzda shows off an impressive collection of Hockey Pucks organised in sub categories. There's a puck from 1876 in there! Now, that's an old puck.
