“Get updated in the
wonderful world of Jalbum”

Say hello to Jalbum blog badge

Posted Mar 5, 2009 by carl in JAlbum news

We get a lot of requests from bloggers who want to integrate their Jalbum albums into blogs. Jalbum is appreciated by bloggers as they can customize photo albums to fit the look and feel of the blog and also for being able to publish it to their own domain. We've already made it easy to share albums in blog posts. Now, we're excited to announce a new way to share photo albums in blogs: the Jalbum blog badge (beta). The blog badge displays your latest published albums in a nifty widget in the sidebar of your blog. This is what mine looks like:

 Carl's blog badge
(note: this is just a picture)

Jalbum blog badge comes in six different color schemes, to match your blog. You can also personalise the title. For a live example check out the badge in the right column further down in this blog. We're still testing it, that's why it's labeled as "beta" and you can't find a link to it from your user pages yet. To try it out, follow this link: http://jalbum.net/create-badge

 Enjoy!

This looks great on my WP 2.7.1 installation (Kubrick default). The 5 displayed Jalbums also work great. But I have more than 5 albums and can't get it to scroll to let users see the others. Is 5 a static limit? Thanks though for a terrific beta that really enhances my page.

I've now released a new version of the Wordpress plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ jalbum-badge/

In this new version you can customize the width of the badge from the widget UI.

@SVE: I've had a brief look at it and I have no idea what's causing it. Might be due to my lack of knowledge about how the Lightbox 2 plugin works. Perhaps you can contact the developers of the Lightbox 2 plugin (http://stimuli.ca/) and ask them for help?

Thank you for the response !!!

Hi SVE,

Thanks for the report. I'm not familiar with the Lightbox 2 plugin, but I will install it and see if there's something that I can do from my end to resolve the issue.

@Carl: It's his theme's CSS that adds the background color. I'll make a small modification to the badge CSS to prevent that from happening.

@Roger: Which version of Wordpress are you using? (I've only tested the plugin with the latest version)

Yes you can set the width by modifying the _ja_badge_width variable. See this forum post: http://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa? threadID=29036

Is there any way to set the width, it's too wide on the sidebar for my skin.

Thanks Kristoffer, the plugin won't work for some reason on my Blog, however, following your suggestion, it now works in a text widget.
Thanks again

@Norseman: Looks like the Title background is taking on your page css and not the badge colors, is that intentional? Great to see it in action!

Norseman says:

Here's another example that seems to work fine on Google's Blooger.

How did you add the code to your blog? I recommend adding a "Text" widget to your sidebar and then pasting the code into the it.

...or you can try out the new Jalbum Badge plugin for WordPress: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ jalbum-badge/

I can't get it to display in WordPress.
Everything done as directed but no links.

Kristoffer Jelbring says:

@Norseman: Your link didn't work (it asks me to sign in to Blogger), but that's ok. I haven't looked in to the internal workings of Blogger yet (we're planning on making a special integration for Blogger) so it would be interesting to see an example of a working (or non-working) badge in a Blogger blog.

Norseman says:

It appears it was only on the "Preview" that the error appears. I deleted the code after the preview error. Now, I have reinstalled it and done the full save and viewed the live blog. It seems to work fine. I couldn't capture the error box, but it opened the following web page:
http://www.blogger.com/rearrange?blo gID=1650302730938273206&action=p review&action=preview&sectio n.navbar=Navbar1&section.header= Header1&section.crosscol=&se ction.main=Blog1&section.sidebar =HTML2,HTML1,Subscribe2,BlogArchive1 ,Profile1&section.footer=Subscri be1&securityToken=slh0kPJqUdRgjw WJ0eQRqrid_bs%3A1237401847946
Hope that helps.

I tried it in IE7 /Google's Blooger and it would show in the preview, but an error box would popup on top of it saying it could not open the web site.

@mes1939: Apparently MySpace doesn't support JavaScript. Perhaps wrapping the badge inside a MySpace app will do the trick.

@Serge: You can also change the number of albums, and as Carl mentioned you can also change the width of the badge.

carl is a site administrator carl is a generous donor

carl says:

@Serge we have made RSS-feeds out of published albums for each user. So to start out you will be able to pick any user and grab a badge for that users published albums. We will also make it available for "Featured albums" and for "Popular albums". You will be able to adjust the width of the badge in order for it to fit nicely with your blogs sidebar

Serge says:

Nice widget, thanks!

... question; can it be tweaked to call out only certain albums by any chance and are dimensions set in stone? (meaning can they be adjusted)

You guys rock!

There are actually a couple of hidden options, and one of them is to tweak the colors individually. I'm going to make a post about that in the forum.

Really cool feature! Successfully tested and integrated, displays correctly on a Mac OS X + Firefox 3 and Safari 3, also on a Ms XP + Firefox 3 but guess what? Little troubles with Ms XP + IE 7 ...
Have some additional lines at the top and and the bottom of the badge, don't know why...
Great job, thank you!
