Get updated in the wonderful world of jAlbum

Jalbum 8.10 is out. The most noticeable addition in this version is that you can now view and edit image captions in Jalbum's thumbnail view as well as in the edit view. This means less clicking back and forth between view modes and better overview of your album! If you prefer the classic filename view (folders still show file names), just switch "Label type" from the View menu. However, I doubt that you want to go back. Click twice on any caption to enter edit mode, or press F2 and type ahead. You don't need to leave the keyboard. Navigate between images using tab and shift-tab. Pressing Enter will leave edit mode and pressing escape will cancel the editing. I question myself why we didn't add this feature three years ago, but now it's here so enjoy!

Image captions can be viewed and edited in the thumbnail view Image captions can now be viewed and edited in the thumbnail view too

There is a full list of improvements in Jalbum 8.10 in the release notes, among them faster loading of large album projects, an improved Turtle skin that loads way faster, various usability enhancements and better XMP support.

What do you think? We are happy for any feedback!

Hi Gord, this can naturally be adjusted, but please post in the forum at http://jalbum.net/forum. The forum is a far better place for support. Include information on what skin you use and also attach one such original image that gets "Furniture" printed next to it and we'll help you with the settings needed.

When I created an album all my photos have a caption called "Furniture". I don't want that caption on my photos, and I want the caption to be the file name, i.e., 1234.jpg. This is bizarre, how do I create an album without the caption, "Furniture"?

I used to have problems using double quotations marks (") in the photo comments box in JAlbum, so I now use a single quotation mark (') instead or use italics text to show a quoted text or speech.

If HMS Naid used a double quotation mark then that could have truncated the text.

Hi. I haven't heard about truncation. Perhaps that is something the skin does. Can you see the full captions within jAlbum? If you see a failed caption editing, do you see any error message if you press F7 afterwards? (that opens jAlbum's system console window)

Is there any reason why I'm entering captions yet they either don't save or are truncated?

Yes, I see no reason why not to keep the file name view as an option. Support for mapping line breaks to
tags will probably be added in the future too. Currently any skin can do this.

Great idea but please do keep the classic file name view option in future versions of JAlbum. Many of my photos have a lot of text in the the Caption and it is impossible to edit in the thumbnail view. As I've said before what would be really useful would be to have a text program that reads the line break. I'm fed up with putting in the hypertext manually. i.e. br in the chevrons. "
" Also a spell checker would be nice! Too much to ask for I know. regards John

I love Jalbum... I am very impressed with it so far. I tried many before but none of them are even close to what Jalbum has to offer... I've been telling my friends...wonderful job, indeed...thank you.
